In-home Family Photography Session, Musselburgh

I was privileged enough to take family photographs of a lovely family in Musselburgh on a sunny day earlier this year. It was probably one of the first sunny days of the year, of which there were to be many more to come. Most of the session took place outside in the family's garden. The family include a preschool little lady and her baby sister, who were there with their Mum.

You can visibly see in the photos the motivation on Wee One's face to try to figure out how to cross this lawn. It won't be too long before she will have figured it out.

Briefly back inside I took some more photos of Wee One in her well-loved baby bouncer.

  • Photo of baby girl on lawn, Musselburgh, being interrupted by big sister.
  • Baby girl on lawn with her Mum, Musselburgh.

Back outside for some close ups of Wee One on her back and erm...oh...here comes Big Sis. “What are you doing?” This last photo totally captures the personalities of all concerned. And the last photo is of baby with Mum who is making her laugh for the camera.

Other than her little sis, Big Sis also really loves her wellies and finding insects in the garden. At this age the garden is fascinating. An interest in the natural world will set her up to care about the environment she lives in and encourage her to help to look after it.

The watering can had more stones than water in. She had put them there. There was a little water, but Mum was careful not to put too much in - so that the flowers weren't flooded.

When photographing pre-school age children parents can feel anxious that not enough photos are being taken. Attention spans can be short as interest in their surroundings can get in the way. But all it takes is a few minutes here and there to capture enough photos.

You can already see in the photo the closeness of the siblings. You can just see the years ahead of Wee One looking up to Big Sis, who will most probably teach her lots of things. Perhaps lots of things that Mum wishes she hadn't, but also lots of useful things too - like about how cool insects are and how to water the plants.

Briefly back inside the two play together. Big Sis is helping Little Sis to bounce.

Love is..... holding hands with your Little Sis, even when she's too young to understand why. What a cutie Big Sis is.
