Christmas Family Session
Last Christmas I was invited to come and take photos for a family with twins. This was a return photoshoot for me. I had taken photos for the family before and it was lovely to see how much the twins had grown.
I started the session off in the family's living room. I often take family photoshoots in a family’s own home. My hope is that it helps to create more meaningful memories that evoke everyday life in years to come.
I brought with me a Christmas backdrop to provide a lovely background for some formal photos.
The two boys also spent time playing during the session. In the photo above they are pretending that their toy box is a boat and they are sailing at sea.
Time for a change of scenery and the fallen leaves and mist outside their house provided the perfect evocative location for this time of year. It also allowed the kids to run around and play outside for a while.
My family sessions can last up to two hours if you wish – a long time for small children. So the second hour of this session consisted of my taking a back seat, which gave the family some space to carry out their normal Sunday morning routine: breakfast and reading stories in their beautiful kitchen. These types of image are called 'lifestyle photos', which just means that they show a slice of normal life. Again I feel that these types of photos will provide strongly evocative memories in years to come of what life was like when the kids were little. I felt it could also help this American couple to share precious glimpses of their everyday life with their relatives abroad.
I personally believe that these boys are budding chefs. To finish off the session I got some great photos of them playing at cooking in the kitchen.
