06.11.20 - Edinburgh Micro Wedding
I was asked to photograph a micro wedding in Edinburgh. This intimate and fun affair was initially scheduled for the spring but was cancelled due to lockdown. The wedding was always going to be small so the couple were able to go ahead as planned during the summer once restrictions had eased.
The bride and groom were getting married in the home of an architect friend. Their friend designed and, at the time of the wedding, was still working on converting an old carpet factory into an individual, spacious home.
The home was decorated with beautiful bouquets of flowers in rich reds and white. These beautiful blooms perfectly reflected the style of this modern hip couple.
It is typical during a wedding that a photographer attends before the ceremony to photograph the groom or bride getting ready. And so it was with this wedding. Well, I arrived a little bit early, to be met by the groom and a couple of his friends. So far so normal!
To keep the kids entertained a bouncy castle was hired. It fitted into the garden just so - perfect. The kids certainly loved it.
The host family included a young baby. One of the advantages for them of being the hosts is that they had all the baby-entertaining paraphernalia they could possibly need right on tap.
The wedding ceremony was to take place outside the house - in a secluded back yard. The yard had been set up with more beautiful flowers and a table for the signing of the register.
The bride arrived with her family, shortly followed by the rest of the guests. The first thing that the children of the group wanted to do was to have their photo taken.
Our gracious hosts were next in front of the lens. There's always one....
The bride and groom posed with their two children. The two girls were bridesmaids for their parents, carrying bouquets and wearing co-ordinated sequined dresses. In keeping with the relaxed, comfortable style the bride and groom were dressed up but chose to avoid the normal wedding tropes.
The bride wore fabulously flowery shoes.
The main request was for me to take portraits of all of the guests.
These photos show one of the families who were attending. Having trouble with children just wanting to play on the bouncy castle? Issue the command 'tickle the children' - works every time.
